A person may be wondering how tonsil stones are formed inside their mouth. Tonsil stones, also called tonsillolith, are calcareous concretion in a tonsil.  These are basically packets of mucus coated with food particles that have become lodged into these divots. It is much like how an oyster secretes a substance around a grain of sand to make a pearl. Mucus is then released around these food particles which in turn slightly solidify around them. It is normal for a person to be concerned if they get these on a chronic and consistent basis.

Tonsil stones are not exactly hazardous in nature but they can trigger some health problems. Halitosis, a term used to describe noticeably unpleasant odors exhaled in breathing, is what tonsil stones bring to a person which also includes discomfort. Some indicative factors also have problem in swallowing, continuous coughing, tendency to choke, and some throat related discomfort.

Understanding what are the causes of these tonsil stones can be the first step towards addressing the problem.  Because these are the result of a build up of calcium, bacteria, mucus, phlegm, and other such elements in the mouth, the tender tissue capping in the mouth and throat area prone to micro split and cuts can harbor these elements forming tonsil stones. It is similar to how dirt on skin pores becomes acne, dirt remaining inside the mouth or throat tissue becomes those little stones. It just simply states how regular mouth washing can sort out the causes of tonsil stones and how to take them out.

Having good oral health is needed when addressing what causes tonsil stones. Flossing regularly is one way to get rid of bacteria and food particles in and around the teeth and gums that a toothbrush may not be able to reach. One must remember that these bits and pieces can form into tonsil stones. Keeping a habit or regular brushing is definitely a must to keep the mouth clean.  Gargling with a mouth wash can also help prevent this build up.

If one is really taking care of their mouth and throat but still have these embarrassing tonsil stones, it may be due to a different case. Experts like dentists, can find ways on how sorting out the cause of these stubborn stones. It may come to the extent of suggesting a tonsil removal for the individual. He can also further help in understanding what other factors can contribute to the formation of tonsil stones. It is also advisable to know some home remedies that can help prevent these tonsil stones from forming on the mouth.
